Which jobs for high school grads are in demand today?

I'm finishing high school soon and I want to find a job that will be in demand. Which types of jobs should I look into that hire high school graduates and have a good future outlook?

Great question! It's wise to consider job demand and future outlook when deciding on your first steps into the labor market. Here are a few fields you could consider:

1. Trade Professions: Skilled trades like electricians, plumbers, construction workers, and HVAC technicians are in high demand. These positions require training and apprenticeship, but your high school diploma is sufficient for entry. An added advantage is these jobs can be resistant to economic downturns.

2. Health Care Support: Jobs such as Certified Nursing Assistants (CNAs), home health aides, and medical secretaries are also in demand, and, in many cases, all you need is a high school diploma to get started. With additional training and certification, you can progress in these fields.

3. Computer and IT Support: If you're interested in technology and have some computer skills, you might consider roles in IT support, such as a help desk technician or network support specialist. These positions often require only a high school diploma, although additional certifications can be useful.

4. Retail Sales: The retail industry consistently needs new workers, and sales positions can provide a solid income, plus valuable skills in customer service and communication.

5. Manufacturing: Despite automation, there are still plenty of jobs that require a human touch, particularly in quality control and maintenance.

6. Transportation and Warehousing: With the rise of e-commerce, jobs in packaging, shipping, storage, and delivery services are also thriving.

Remember, in many of these roles, you would benefit from additional vocational training or certification programs, but it's entirely possible to start with just a high school diploma. As always, explore your options and consider your interests and strengths when making these decisions.
