Are there volunteer security services for high school students?

I'm interested in security services and considering volunteering to gain experience. Are there any organizations or opportunities where high school students can volunteer for security roles, and what responsibilities would these involve?

While there may not be many opportunities for high school students to directly participate in security services due to liabilities and age restrictions, there are alternative ways you can get involved indirectly to gain exposure to the field.

One possibility is to involve yourself with your school's safety and security committee, if one exists. Here, you can understand how they manage security policies, respond to emergencies, and ensure overall campus safety.

Another option is participating in a local Police Explorer program, provided by many police departments nationwide. While strictly not security, you would be introduced to various aspects of law enforcement, which certainly overlap with security practices.

Volunteering at community events, such as local festivals or races, can also offer exposure. These events often employ volunteers to help maintain crowd control and ensure participant safety, which aligns closely with several responsibilities in a security role.

Regardless of the specific role, you will need to demonstrate maturity, responsibility, and judgement. Such experiences can provide a valuable introduction to the field of security services, fostering skills like problem-solving, effective communication, and teamwork which are crucial to successful security work.
