Should I include high school on job applications?

I'm applying for some part-time jobs and internships, and I'm not sure if I should list my high school or just focus on my skills and experiences. Does including my high school information matter to employers?

It can depend on the type of job you're applying to and what stage of your career you're in. Since you're presumably in high school or recently graduated, it would likely be beneficial to include your high school education on your resume. The fact that you are in the process of gaining an education can appeal to employers, as it can indicate maturity, responsibility, and commitment.

Be sure to mention any relevant courses or extracurricular activities you've participated in that showcase critical skills or experiences relevant to the job. If you've taken any AP classes or participated in any clubs, competitions, or leadership opportunities that relate to the job, it could certainly make you stand out. For example, if you're applying to a tech internship, mentioning your membership in a programming club or coursework in computer science can demonstrate your interest and experience in the field.

Do remember to prioritize any relevant work experience, volunteer experience, or internships if you have them. These typically hold more weight with employers as they provide direct evidence of your ability to function in a workplace setting. If you find that including your high school information makes your resume too crowded, you may want to prioritize more relevant experiences over it.

Ultimately, the key is to effectively communicate your capabilities and accomplishments to your potential employer, and any education or experiences that can assist in doing that should be included.
