Listing high school jobs on my resume: yay or nay?

I'm updating my resume and have some jobs from high school that were relevant but not super recent. Should I include them, or focus more on recent activities and internships?

Including high school jobs in your resume can be quite beneficial, particularly if these jobs are relevant to the job you're presently seeking, or if they showcase transferrable skills. Often, employers appreciate seeing some form of work experience. This exhibits a level of responsibility, as well as an understanding of basic job practices such as punctuality, workplace etiquette, and collaboration.

In positioning these jobs on your resume, it's generally preferred to structure your experience in reverse chronological order, starting with your most recent and pertinent experiences. So if you've held internships or gained experience in college that's relevant to the job, those items should take precedence.

However, if you've been engaged in substantial roles during high school that demonstrate unique skills and responsibilities, you can certainly include them. For instance, if you served as a manager at a store or led a significant project, these experiences may underscore leadership skills that are very transferable to new positions.

Ultimately, the secret is to keep your resume concise and relevant. If you find that the resume is getting too lengthy, prioritize your most significant and recent experiences and potentially omit those where you may not have learned or displayed as much growth or relevant skills.

Think about what each experience says about you, your abilities, and your suitability for the role you're applying for. If you believe your high school jobs are throughout conveying that image - then, by all means, include them.
