Interested in Somerville High School summer program jobs

I'm considering applying for jobs at the Somerville High School summer program. Does anyone have experience with this? Are these positions good for building skills that colleges will care about?

While I don't have personal experience with the Somerville High School summer program jobs, I can definitely say that many summer jobs—especially ones related to education—can be a fantastic way to gain valuable skills that colleges look favorably upon.

Working in a summer program often allows you to develop transferable skills colleges value. These can include leadership, problem solving, communication, teamwork, and responsibility. If you're able to secure a role where you're interacting with students and possibly even designing and implementing educational programming, these can provide meaningful experiences that you can discuss in your college applications.

Furthermore, working in an education-related role shows a commitment to your community, which can also be seen as a positive by admissions committees. It's a good fit with the Tier 3 extracurriculars, which highlight a student's interest and show initiative and responsibility.

However, it's important to remember that it's not just about having the job—it's about what you learn from it, how you grow from the experience, and how you're able to articulate that in your college applications. Whether you're writing essays or describing an extracurricular activity, you'll want to highlight the skills you gained and the impact you had during your time in the job.

Just remember to continue to pursue your main interest or "spike" alongside this experience, since colleges appreciate depth in a particular area alongside a breadth of experiences. Balanced involvement in several activities is looked upon favorably.

Best of luck with your job application!
