Navigating military enlistment and citizenship requirements

I'm interested in joining the military but have some questions about citizenship requirements. I was born outside the US and am now a citizen. Do I need to provide additional documentation when enlisting?

Certainly, joining the military as a non-US-born citizen is a process that requires some additional steps compared to US-born citizens, but it's definitely achievable. Since you're a citizen now, that's a significant requirement met already!

When you go to enlist, you'll need to bring your naturalization certificate or your passport as proof of your citizenship. Keep in mind that these documents will need to be originals—I can't stress enough that photocopies generally won't be accepted.

Apart from your citizenship details, you should also prepare to provide other documents such as your birth certificate, Social Security card, and high school diploma or equivalent, among others.

Remember that recruiters are there to help, so don't hesitate to ask them any concerns or questions you may have about the enlistment process. They're generally well-versed in the regulations and nuances relating to citizenship and military enlistment, so they can provide detailed guidance appropriate for your situation.
