Best college for nautical science?

I'm really interested in pursuing nautical science, but I'm having trouble figuring out which college is the best for this major. Has anyone done this program or knows which schools have a strong program?

Since nautical science is a very specialized subject, there aren't a huge number of colleges that offer it. However, there are some schools that are particularly renowned for their programs. Massachusetts Maritime Academy, SUNY Maritime College, US Merchant Marine Academy, and Texas A&M at Galveston stand out.

Massachusetts Maritime Academy offers a major in Marine Transportation, where you could study Nautical Science. They have an excellent hands-on program, with cadets required to spend some time each year on the academy's training ship, and graduates report a high degree of satisfaction with their educational experience.

SUNY Maritime College, located in New York, also offers a top-rated program in Maritime Transportation, where you could focus on Nautical Science. Like Massachusetts Maritime, SUNY Maritime also uses a sort of "sea term" or "sea project" to provide hands-on, practical experience. They all have a rich history and tradition of providing education in the maritime field.

Also, the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy, which has a very strong marine transportation program, has a significant Nautical Science component. One thing to note is you’ll have a service commitment after graduation, but it does mean you’re likely to have a job right after graduating.

Texas A&M University at Galveston is also worth considering. While the program leans a bit more toward marine biology and oceanography, they have a strong marine transportation curriculum that covers nautical science.

Remember, when evaluating these programs, it's important to consider factors like class size, faculty expertise, hands-on learning opportunities, and job placement rates. Good luck with your college search!
