Exploring Top Audio Engineering Colleges

Audio engineering seems really fascinating and I'm considering it as a career. Does anyone know which colleges have the best programs for audio engineering?

Absolutely, there are several top colleges known for their great audio engineering programs!

The Berklee College of Music for example, is often considered one of the best. Their Music Production and Engineering (MP&E) department is very hands-on and provides students with plenty of access to professional-grade studios. Here, you'd learn about different facets of music recording and production, from mixing and mastering to post-production for the film industry.

USC Thornton School of Music's Music Production program is also top-notch. It offers a comprehensive audio engineering curriculum with an added emphasis on entrepreneurship, so it’s great if you’re thinking of starting your own production company down the line.

CRAS (Conservative Recording Arts and Sciences) is another institution you might want to consider. While it's not a traditional four-year college, it specializes in audio engineering and therefore offers very intensive and comprehensive programs in all areas of the field.

Finally, The Peabody Institute of Johns Hopkins University offers a Recording Arts and Sciences program that covers both the technical and aesthetic aspects of audio engineering. It's a bit unique as it adds a scientific twist to the musical training, which might appeal to you if you're interested in the technical component of the field.

In your search, remember to consider not only the reputation of the program, but also what specific courses and styles of teaching they offer, the facilities and equipment available, as well as opportunities for internships or professional connections in the field. Good luck on your college search!
