Considering a Career with Vocational Training Jobs After High School

Can anyone share experiences or recommendations for jobs that need vocational training? I'm trying to figure out if there's a specific training or certification that could lead to a stable job without a college degree.

Sure, there are certainly a number of fields where vocational training or certification can lead to stable, high-demand jobs.

First, the healthcare sector, which includes jobs like licensed vocational nurses (LVN), dental hygienists, or radiologic technicians. For most of these roles, you'd need to attend a vocational or technical college to get a diploma, certificate, or sometimes associate's degree.

In the technology sector, jobs like IT support specialist or cybersecurity analyst are booming. For these roles, you might need to complete certain industry certifications like CompTIA A+ for IT support or Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP) for cybersecurity.

Skilled trades like plumbing, electrician work, or HVAC (heating, ventilation, and air conditioning) repair are also worth considering. Many of these trades have vocational apprenticeship programs where you get hands-on training while working and getting paid.

One unique aspect of vocational jobs is that many involve hands-on work and can't be outsourced or automated, providing some job security. Keep in mind, though, that every job has its pros and cons, and it's important to consider other factors—work environment, physical demands, and opportunities for advancement, among others.
