Where to Study Engineering and Music Together?

I love both engineering and music and would like to find a college where I can study both. Does anyone know schools that support a dual focus or have programs tailored to these interests?

You have a unique combination of interests that could potentially lead to a rich and fulfilling academic experience! Many schools support dual degrees or interdepartmental collaborations that could cater to your interests in engineering and music.

Carnegie Mellon University is a considerable option. Their unique Bachelor of Engineering Studies and Arts program allows you to dual major in subjects in the College of Fine Arts (CFA) and the College of Engineering (ENG). This program encourages collaboration between the two colleges, promoting an interdisciplinary approach.

Similarly, Stanford University has a program known as "Individually Designed Majors in Engineering (IDMEN)", which allows students to combine studies in engineering and a complementary field, music in your case. Stanford also has a strong music program for a great balance.

The University of Rochester could be another great option because you can take classes or even double major across schools, and they have the well-regarded Eastman School of Music at Rochester for your music interest, as well as a solid engineering program.

Finally, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) is another choice worth considering. Known for its strong engineering program, MIT also has a robust music program. Given MIT’s flexibility with double majors and minors, you could potentially study both fields.

Remember, the best program for you will also depend on your specific interests within engineering and music. It's best to research the specific offerings and strengths of the music and engineering departments at each of these schools. Also, consider opportunities for performance or research, depending on your interests. Finally, don't forget to attend college fairs, reach out to admission officers, and current students to learn more about these programs. Good luck in your college search!
