Vocational rehabilitation job opportunities in California?

I'm thinking about moving to California after high school and am interested in vocational rehabilitation work. Are there many job opportunities in this field in the state, and what's the demand like?

California has a robust vocational rehabilitation sector, given its large and diverse population. The state is home to various non-profit organizations, medical facilities, and schools that employ individuals in vocational rehabilitation roles. These roles can range from vocational rehabilitation counselors to rehabilitation specialists and other related positions.

The demand for vocational rehabilitation professionals is generally quite high in the larger cities like Los Angeles, San Francisco, and San Diego, which have a wide range of services for individuals seeking rehabilitation services due to disabilities or injury.

However, like any job market, the availability of roles can fluctuate based on factors such as funding, state budgets, policies and the general economic climate. One way to gauge current demand is to do a search on a job site for vocational rehabilitation positions in different areas of California to get an idea of the market scenario.

As for the future outlook, the Bureau of Labor Statistics projects that the employment of rehabilitation counselors, in general, will grow faster than the average for all occupations. This growth is due to a large aging population who might need rehabilitation counseling and a continued trend towards seeking help for social and human services issues. This trend is expected to positively affect the vocational rehabilitation field.

Keep in mind that working in vocational rehabilitation often requires a master's degree, but some positions may only require a bachelor's degree. Further, some roles might require additional certification.

Lastly, remember that while job opportunities and demand are important considerations, you should also take into account other factors like passion for the field, personal growth opportunities, work-life balance, and compensation.
