What does a rifleman in the Marines do?

I'm considering enlisting in the military after graduation and the rifleman role in the Marines caught my attention. What does this job entail and what kind of training would I need? Any advice on whether this would be a good fit?

As a rifleman in the Marines, you would be part of the backbone of the Marine Corps. Riflemen are primarily responsible for engaging the enemy in battle, as their role is the primary infantry job within the Marines.

Training for this position occurs during a 59-day course, following basic training, at the School of Infantry (SOI). Here your skills are developed in areas such as patrolling, weapons handling, marksmanship, and combat tactics. Once you complete SOI, there are opportunities for additional training; this might involve furthering your skills in reconnaissance, sniping, or close quarters combat.
