Which colleges are known for their data science programs in the USA?

I'm considering a major in data science, and I'd love to know which universities in the US have the best programs. Should I be looking more at traditional tech schools, or are there hidden gems out there?

I'm happy to guide you through your journey about majoring in data science! There are several universities renowned for their Data Science programs in the United States. Here's a list:

1. Stanford University: Their Department of Statistics offers a Bachelor of Science in Data Science which, as expected from Stanford, tends to be rigorous and firmly grounded in both statistical theory and computation.

2. University of California, Berkeley: It offers a diverse data science program with its interdisciplinary studies in various fields such as statistics, machine learning, and informatics.

3. The University of Michigan–Ann Arbor: This institution has heavily invested in their data science program in recent years. They offer either a Data Science major or minor, which includes a mix of computer science, statistics, and data manipulation.

4. Carnegie Mellon University: Known for strength in technology and engineering, CMU's programs in data science are quite renowned. They offer a Bachelor of Science in Statistics & Machine Learning under their Department of Statistics and Data Science.

5. MIT: While they don't have a specific Data Science undergraduate degree, their Computer Science, Economics, and Data Science (Course 6-14) major covers many of the same areas.

While these are not hidden gems, their programs are highly respected. However, the 'best' school will ultimately depend on what specifically you want to do with Data Science. I would recommend researching each program thoroughly and see which ones align with your career goals the best! Don't forget to check out their course catalogs to see what classes you would be taking.
