Best Colleges for Veterinary Science in New York?

I've always had a passion for animals and am looking to study veterinary science. Does anyone know which schools in New York are top-rated for their veterinary programs?

Cornell University is well-renowned for its veterinary science program. The College of Veterinary Medicine at Cornell is considered one of the top veterinary schools not only in the state of New York but also nationally and even worldwide. The college offers a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) degree, as well as combined DVM/PhD and DVM/Master's degree programs.

However, keep in mind that these are professional (postgraduate) degree programs, i.e., you typically must complete an undergraduate degree before applying. If you're looking for undergraduate programs that would prepare you for a veterinary career, you might look into fields like animal science, biology, or biochemistry.

Cornell's College of Agriculture and Life Sciences (CALS) offers an excellent animal science undergraduate program which can set a solid groundwork for further studies in veterinary medicine. You can take courses such as animal nutrition, animal breeding, and more. This will give you a broad understanding of the field, and prepare you for application to a DVM program.

Another school worth mentioning is Columbia University. Although they don't offer a veterinary medicine program, they do have strong pre-medical advising and biology programs, which can be a good foundation for a future career as a veterinarian.

Always remember to consider various factors like financial considerations, your career goals, location, size of the school, and culture of the school when making your final decision. It’s also important to plan early as many vet schools require certain prerequisites, often in biological sciences and laboratory techniques.
