Which jobs can be pursued with vocational training?

I'm exploring vocational training as an option after high school but am unsure of specific jobs it prepares you for. What kind of careers can you actually get into with vocational training?

Vocational training can lead to a wide variety of fulfilling careers across many different industries. A great benefit of vocational programs is that they prepare you directly for specific professions, focusing on providing the necessary hands-on skills and technical knowledge.

For instance, a career in healthcare is possible through vocational training. You could become a dental hygienist, licensed practical nurse (LPN), or a radiologic technician, among other roles.

In the automotive industry, you could become an auto mechanic, which involves diagnosing and repairing vehicle issues.

The skilled trades likewise have plenty of opportunities. You could become an electrician, a plumber, a HVAC technician, or a welder.

In the field of cosmetology, vocational training could lead to careers as a hairstylist, makeup artist or an esthetician.

You could also pursue a career as a chef or sous chef through culinary arts vocational training. Another culinary route is becoming a pastry chef, if you're more interested in baking.

In the technology sector, data centers often hire people with vocational training in information technology to maintain servers and networks.

The hospitality field is another area where vocational training is valuable. Roles here could include hotel management or event planning.

Do remember that while vocational training often results in lower tuition costs and a shorter time to starting your career, be sure to explore all options fully, including potential salary and job growth in your area before making a decision. Courses and apprenticeships can vary in length and cost, and some occupations may require additional certifications or licenses to practice. Always research a vocational school’s accreditation, program success rates, and career support services before enrolling. Good luck with your career exploration!
