Top environmental engineering schools in North Carolina?

I’m looking at environmental engineering programs in North Carolina and want to know which colleges are recommended. Does anyone have insights or personal experiences about programs that are especially strong in this field?

In North Carolina, I would recommend considering three schools with notable programs in Environmental Engineering: North Carolina State University (NCSU), Duke University, and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (UNC Chapel Hill).

NCSU's College of Engineering has an Environmental Engineering program that is known to be academically rigorous and offers opportunities for undergraduate research. Furthermore, NCSU has a reputation of having strong practical training elements which could be a key factor for you to gain hands-on experience in this field.

Duke University also offers a top program in Environmental Engineering. The Pratt School of Engineering at Duke is quite well-regarded and offers opportunities for research and project-based learning as well. Their program is known for a rigorous academic curriculum that integrates analysis and design with understanding the natural and social principles relevant to environmental engineering systems.

Lastly, UNC Chapel Hill could be a strong choice as well. However, they do not have a specific Environmental Engineering program, but rather an Environmental Science program that can be combined with a multitude of other majors or minors that allows students to further tailor their interests. Their Environmental Sciences major is interdisciplinary, which means it combines a solid foundation in the natural sciences with training in social sciences, policy, and law.

Each of these schools offers a slightly different approach and it's important to consider what factors are most important to you in your education. Therefore, I'd recommend researching each of these programs more deeply and consider visiting the campuses if possible, to get a better feel for each program's culture and opportunities.
