Best college in Oregon for computer science?

Planning on applying for computer science programs, and I'm curious about the top schools in Oregon for this major. I've heard good things about Oregon State, but I'm open to others. Any recommendations?

Absolutely, Oregon has some great institutions for Computer Science studies.

Starting with Oregon State University that you mentioned—it's indeed renowned for its strong computer science program. The school has a strong focus on practical experience, providing students with the opportunity to participate in projects that can translate to real job experience post graduation. Their programs in Computer Science are known to be very comprehensive and updated with contemporary developments in the field.

However, let's not forget University of Oregon, which also has an excellent computer science program, and is particularly commended for its research in areas such as databases and data science, programming languages, software engineering, and machine learning, among others.

Another great institution in Oregon is the Portland State University. The Maseeh College of Engineering & Computer Science at Portland State is lauded for its research programs in computer science and its collaboration with the thriving tech industry in Portland.

It also might worth considering The Oregon Institute of Technology (Oregon Tech). While perhaps not as well-known, Oregon Tech provides a hands-on, application-oriented program. This program is known for excellent job placement rates and above-average starting salaries for graduates.

Lastly, consider Reed College if you're interested in a liberal arts experience combined with a strong computer science program. Reed’s program is known for a rigorous theoretical foundation and encourages research, giving you a solid understanding of the field.

When making your decision, consider factors such as class sizes, faculty, internship opportunities, and the specific areas of computer science that each program emphasizes. Visiting each campus and sitting in on a class, if possible, would also give you a better feel for each school's environment. Best of luck with your applications!
