Which are the best colleges in New York for actuarial science?

I'm beginning to research colleges in New York that offer strong programs in actuarial science. Does anyone know which schools have the best reputation and resources for this major?

I'd like to suggest a few top-tier institutions for actuarial science programs in New York.

The first one is Columbia University. Although not a traditional actuarial science major, their Mathematical Sciences major offers a rigorous curriculum that parallels the topics required by actuarial exams. Furthermore, New York, being the financial capital of the world, provides ample opportunities for internships and networking.

Another notable institution is New York University (NYU). It's Stern School of Business offers a major in actuarial science. Because of its location in Manhattan, students have easy access to Fortune 500 companies and a healthy job market.

Binghamton University is also a great choice. Actuarial science is a major in Binghmaton's School of Management and they also have a student-run Actuarial Association to help students network and prepare for exams.

Lastly, St. John's University in Queens offers an actuarial science program. The proximity to Manhattan allows St. John's students access to high-quality internships and job opportunities too.

However, I recommend checking the course setup and other unique aspects of these programs at each school to determine which one fits your requirements and preferences best. Remember, choosing a school should also be based on overall fit, including factors such as campus life, size, and cost. Be sure to use tools like the net price calculator to estimate the financial aid package you could receive from each.

Lastly, while focusing on academics, don't forget to pursue valuable extracurricular activities colloquially classified under the Four Tiers of Extracurriculars. Holding leadership roles in clubs and organizations related to math or finance, or successfully completing relevant internships, can really help strengthen your overall application.
