You certainly have a fascinating area of interest! When it comes to automotive engineering programs, the United States has some excellent universities that offer strong programs in this field. Here are a few notable ones:

1. University of Michigan–Ann Arbor: UMich has a renowned Mechanical Engineering program with opportunities for specialization in automotive engineering. They also have the Automotive Engineering graduate program as part of Michigan's College of Engineering. You'd learn everything from vehicle dynamics to engine systems. Plus, it's located in the heart of the US auto industry.

2. Kettering University: In Flint, Michigan, it's known for its strong co-op program where you alternate between working full-time and studying full-time. Their Mechanical Engineering program with a concentration in Automotive Engineering is well regarded.

3. Michigan Technological University: Their Mechanical Engineering program offers a course work in automotive systems as well as automotive engineering technology.

4. Clemson University: They offer an excellent Automotive Engineering program, particularly at the graduate level. Their International Center for Automotive Research (CU-ICAR) is a top-notch research facility.

5. Purdue University: It's Mechanical Engineering program, with an optional concentration in automotive, is highly respected with plenty of hands-on lab and design opportunities. They also offer a degree in Motorsports Engineering!

Texas A&M and University of Texas at Austin also house high-ranking engineering programs where students can specialize in mechanical or automotive engineering.

All these schools have strong relations with the industry and can offer internships, co-op programs, and career opportunities after graduation. It's a good idea to reach out to the departments and ask them about their specific programs, curriculums, and the type of industry relationships they have for post-graduate job placement. Also, don't forget to consider the overall fit of the college for you in terms of size, location, financial package, etc.

One last piece of advice: Keep in mind that a broader Mechanical Engineering degree with a concentration in automotive engineering can often offer more flexibility in terms of career prospects compared to a specialized Automotive Engineering degree. Have a great journey ahead in the world of Automotive Engineering!
