Which UCSD college is best for science enthusiasts?

I'm looking into majoring in a science field at UCSD and trying to decide which of the seven colleges would be the best fit for me. Any insights on what makes one better than the others for science majors?

Each of UCSD's eight colleges has a particular philosophy and correspondingly different general education requirements, but in terms of your major, all of the colleges provide equal access to the departments and majors across UCSD. Hence, your choice of college at UCSD is not likely to significantly impact your access to or quality of courses in your major. Whether you're studying biology, physics, chemistry, or any other scientific discipline, you'll have access to the same professors and classes, regardless of which college you choose.

Each college does, however, have a unique general education curriculum and ethos, so you may want to consider these differences while making your choice.

1) Revelle College is often a strong choice for science majors, as it has a heavy emphasis on math, science, and humanities classes as part of its general education requirements.

2) Muir College is known for its "spirit of self-determination and individuality" and its more open, flexible general education requirements. This could potentially free up more of your academic timetable for intensive science coursework.

3) Warren College has a general education curriculum designed for students pursuing degrees in engineering, science, and mathematics, making it another option worth considering.

4) Sixth College has a strong focus on the interdisciplinary impact of technology and science on society, making for an intriguing lens to view your studies through.

Remember, the core experiences of your major – the core courses, the professors, research opportunities – will largely be the same no matter what college you’re in. Each college has benefits and drawbacks associated with it, and the key to selection is to determine which general education requirements, community, and ethos align best with your personal preferences and academic goals.
