Which college at UCSD is best for engineering?

I'm trying to decide on a college within UCSD that's best for engineering students. Anyone who knows which college offers the best community and resources for an engineering major? Also, any tips on the college decision-making process?

UC San Diego has eight undergraduate colleges - Revelle, John Muir, Thurgood Marshall, Earl Warren, Eleanor Roosevelt, Sixth, Seventh, and Eighth. Each of them has its own general education (GE) requirements, different values, and ethos, yet regardless of the college at UCSD you choose, you'll be able to major in engineering. All engineering majors are housed under the Jacobs School of Engineering, not within each college.

Each college, however, has different general education requirements that can impact your experience. For instance, if you're passionate about humanities, Sixth College with its Culture, Art, and Technology program might appeal to you. Conversely, Revelle College has a rigorous science and math GE requirement which might align with your engineering focus.

As for resources and community, again, it's important to note that these are more related to your major and the Jacobs School of Engineering than to your specific college. The resources available for engineering students will be the same, no matter the college you are in.

In terms of the college decision-making process, consider the philosophy and general education requirements of each college. Consider what you want out of your education, aside from your major, and find a college that aligns with your values. It might also be helpful to read online forums or reach out to current students or alumni to get a sense of the vibe of each college.

Always remember, your college does not limit your opportunities as an engineering student at UCSD. The aid, resources, and community of your college will primarily shape your ancillary experiences - things like where you live, the people you might meet early on, events, and traditions. Ultimately, the "best" college for engineering at UCSD is largely subjective and depends on your own personal and academic preferences.
