What are the best Cambridge colleges for engineering?

I'm considering applying to the University of Cambridge for engineering and would love to know which colleges are the best for the engineering program. Any insights on reputation, resources, or student experience would be super helpful! Thanks!

Cambridge University's general Engineering degree does not vary greatly by college in terms of academic resources since lectures and practical work are arranged by the Department of Engineering and not dependent on which college you're affiliated with. All undergraduate engineering students start with a common curriculum for the first two years, so you'll receive the same foundation in terms of academic/coursework content regardless of the college.

However, colleges do vary in terms of culture, size, facilities, location, and other aspects. For engineering, you might look into colleges with strong science and technology presences. Girton has a strong reputation for Engineering, while Churchill is known for its focus on Sciences and Engineering. St. Catharine’s (Catz) and Trinity College also have great reputations in STEM fields.

Another important factor to consider is the Director of Studies (DoS) in Engineering at the college, as they are responsible for organising your supervisions (tutorials) and providing additional academic support.

Alternatively, if location near the department is important, St John's and Trinity are closer to the Engineering Department building in West Cambridge than some other colleges.

Finally, keep in mind that student experience will likely play a big role in your decision. Once you have a shortlist, check out tour videos, talk to current or former students, and connect with college-specific organizations to get a feel of the community and resources from a personal perspective.

Ultimately, the 'best' college for you will depend on your own personal preferences and needs. It's advisable to apply for the college where you think you would be the happiest because a positive environment can greatly enhance your academic experience.
