Best Colleges in North Carolina for Computer Science?

I'm trying to decide where to apply for a computer science major and I've been looking into North Carolina. What are some of the top schools for computer science in that state? Any recommendations would be helpful!

Certainly, North Carolina has some excellent schools for computer science. Here are three that stand out, based on faculty, programs, research opportunities, and student outcomes:

1. Duke University: Duke's Department of Computer Science is one of the top in the country. They offer both B.S. and B.A. degree programs in Computer Science. The faculty here are engaged in cutting-edge research, which means you can choose between a more technical course of study, and a more interdisciplinary one. As a student, you'd have plenty of opportunities to engage in research, work on collaborative projects, and pursue off-campus experiential learning opportunities and internships.

2. University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill (UNC Chapel Hill): UNC Chapel Hill has a highly ranked computer science department as well. Students have the chance to engage in research and internships. The curriculum is rigorous and offers numerous electives, from game development to data science, allowing students to pursue their specific interests.

3. North Carolina State University (NC State): While maybe a bit below Duke and UNC Chapel Hill in terms of national ranking, NC State has a solid Computer Science program. It's also located in Raleigh, which is part of the Research Triangle area, providing numerous tech-related professional opportunities.

Additionally, all three of these schools benefit from being in the Research Triangle, which means, as you might expect, that there is a great deal of research and innovation happening in this area. Regardless of which specific institution you attend, North Carolina is certainly a fantastic place to complete your undergraduate studies!

Remember, the "best" school isn't just about the rankings, but also about what fits your academic and personal preferences. Think about the size of the school, the culture, location, resources, extracurricular activities, and cost when you're making your decision. Good luck!
