Best small colleges for environmental science?

I'm really passionate about environmental science and prefer smaller college settings. Does anyone know of good small colleges with strong environmental science programs that I should look into?

Absolutely, there are several small colleges renowned for their environmental science programs.

1. Middlebury College: It's known for having a dedicated environmental studies program that can be combined with another major like biology or geography. Its location in Vermont makes it a prime location for immersive learning, with easy access to natural resources and research opportunities.

2. Bowdoin College: Housed within the Maine region—a hotspot for environmental research—this small college's environmental studies program is multi-faceted and draws from different disciplines for a comprehensive understanding of the subject.

3. Oberlin College: Oberlin has a long-standing commitment to sustainability and environmentalism—both in its operations and in its academic offerings. You might want to check out their Environmental Studies program which offers excellent breadth and depth.

4. Colby College: Colby, situated in Maine, has a strong environmental science program. The school has a dedicated environmental studies department that covers both natural and social science perspectives.

5. Pomona College: Located in California, Pomona offers an environmental analysis program through its affiliated Claremont Colleges. The program includes course options in environmental science, environmental health, and environmental justice among others.

6. Lewis & Clark College: Lewis & Clark, in Oregon, has a distinctive environmental studies program with three branches: environmental science, environmental and natural resources law, and environmental and cultural history. It's an excellent choice if you're interested in a multidisciplinary approach to environmental science.

Remember to evaluate each school not only on the strength of their academic programs, but also on factors such as financial aid, campus culture, location, and other opportunities that are important to you. Visit the college websites, connect with admissions officers or current students, and attend virtual sessions if you can, to get a good feel for each school. Good luck with your college search!
