Opinions on the best Illinois colleges for environmental science?

I'm looking to study environmental science and was wondering which colleges in Illinois have the best programs. Are there any that are particularly strong in this field?

The University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign (UIUC) is a good place to start when considering Environmental Science programs in Illinois. UIUC has a robust College of Agricultural, Consumer, and Environmental Sciences, where students can customize their studies to various aspects of environmental sciences. They're known for exceptional research facilities and excellent faculty, with a multidisciplinary approach that covers everything from environmental economics and policy to conservation biology.

Another interesting option worth considering is Northwestern University. While known more for its excellent programs in fields like journalism and engineering, Northwestern also has a strong program in Environmental Sciences. In particular, Northwestern's Program in Environmental Science, housed within the Department of Earth and Planetary Sciences, provides intensive training in the physical, chemical, and biological processes that shape the Earth’s environment.

University of Chicago (UChicago) is another paramount name within Illinois, with a formidable Environmental Science Program that is focused on providing in-depth scientific training in physical, chemical, and biological processes that underpin environmental challenges.

Yet another option to consider is Southern Illinois University Carbondale. They offer a Bachelor's in Environmental Science that leans heavily into practical, hands-on research experiences and community engagement.

These programs are all different, so it would be helpful to think about what specific areas of environmental science you're most interested in, and what type of school environment you're looking for.
