The East Coast has several excellent options for studying software engineering. First off, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) is world-renowned for its Computer Science and Electrical Engineering department, which covers significant aspects of software engineering.

Harvard University also has a fantastic Computer Science department that provides excellent software engineering education and research opportunities. While remembering not to confuse the Computer science major with software engineering, you would still learn valuable skills for careers in software engineering.

Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh has a dedicated School of Computer Science with a software engineering major that's highly regarded in the tech industry.

The University of Pennsylvania's (UPenn) School of Engineering and Applied Science also offers a Computer Science program with a concentration in Systems and Networks that delves into software engineering concepts.

Lastly, the College of Engineering and Applied Science at Princeton University has a robust Computer Science program with avenues to specialize in software engineering.

In terms of internships, these schools have strong relationships with industry leaders and frequently host career fairs and recruitment events where students can network with potential employers. You can also engage with faculty on research projects, which is another way to acquire hands-on experience in the field. Remember to consider factors such as the teaching approach, faculty, curriculum, and campus culture when you choose a school.
