Choosing a college in Massachusetts for political science

I'm planning to major in political science, and I'm curious about the best colleges in Massachusetts for this major. Are there any schools known for strong faculty or unique opportunities in this field? Any advice would be appreciated!

Absolutely, Massachusetts certainly is home to some strong programs in Political Science.

Harvard, located in Cambridge, is known internationally for its impactful contributions to political science research. Its faculty is diverse, and students have ample opportunity to engage in research themselves, which can be a great jumping-off point for future careers or education in the field.

Boston College has a strong political science faculty as well. In addition to a standard course of study, Boston College offers a special program called the Clough Center for Constitutional Democracy, which brings in speakers and promotes research in political science, particularly in constitutional law.

Over in Amherst, you have UMass Amherst with a large Political Science department that offers a number of special programs and research opportunities. The university also hosts the Massachusetts Center for Interdisciplinary Renaissance Studies, which, while not specifically political, offers insight into historical governance and societal structures.

Lastly, Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) is another great option. Their Department of Political Science is renowned for its emphasis on empirical research in contemporary political affairs. The college experience is heavily focused on production of original scholarly work and encourages students to interact closely with faculty.

While these are all excellent programs, the choice really comes down to what you're hoping to gain from your college experience. As you're evaluating your options, consider what sort of campus culture, opportunities for research, and political subfields interest you the most. Remember that the best program for you is the one that aligns most closely with your personal goals and interests.
