There are quite a few southern universities with strong Political Science programs that you might want to consider. Here are a few:

- Duke University: Duke is a prestigious institution with a top-tier Political Science department. Their study program tackles a wide range of areas in political science and offers ample opportunities for research and internships.

- University of Virginia: UVA's Department of Politics offers a major which allows you to explore six main areas of study: American Politics, Comparative Politics, International Relations, Political Methodology, Political Theory, and Race, Ethnicity & Gender.

- Vanderbilt University: Vanderbilt's Political Science department is renowned for its strength in the theoretical and empirical study of international relations, law and courts, and political institutions among others.

- University of North Carolina - Chapel Hill: UNC-Chapel Hill offers a comprehensive Political Science program and gives students the opportunity to work with professors on research projects.

- University of Texas at Austin: UT Austin's Government department is robust and offers a wide range of concentrations.
