Top colleges for ocean engineering?

I'm fascinated by the ocean and want to study ocean engineering in college. Can anyone recommend some of the best colleges that have strong ocean engineering programs? It'd be cool to find places that really focus on marine technology.

Absolutely! There are several colleges that are known for having strong programs in Ocean Engineering.

1. The Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) has a joint program through the Department of Mechanical Engineering and the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering that offers an undergraduate degree in Ocean Engineering. True to MIT's reputation, this program is rigorous and very research-based.

2. The Florida Institute of Technology offers a specialized and comprehensive Ocean Engineering program, with hands-on coursework and strong ties to marine industries.

3. The University of Rhode Island boasts a dedicated Department of Ocean Engineering and presents students with plenty of hands-on, practical experience along with theoretical knowledge. The centerpiece of this program is its access to the Narragansett Bay, home to numerous research facilities.

4. Texas A&M University in College Station also has a well-regarded Department of Ocean Engineering. Their program caters to the plentiful oil and gas industry in the region and the Gulf of Mexico at large.

5. University of California, San Diego (UCSD) offers a B.S. in Environmental Engineering with a focus on the marine environment, which might appeal to your marine technology interest.

Remember, picking a college isn't only about the strength of a specific program. Also consider factors such as the location, size, cost, overall fit, and availability of other majors, just in case you decide to switch. Those would all affect your college experience just as much as your academic program.
