What does a concierge do at a hotel?

I've heard about concierges in hotels, but I'm not completely sure what they do. Can someone explain their main responsibilities? Seems like a cool job, and I'm wondering if it's something I could pursue after high school.

A hotel concierge is often the first point of contact for guests, and they play a key role in providing personalized guest services. Their primary responsibility is to assist guests by making restaurant reservations, arranging for spa services, recommending places of interest, booking transportation like taxis, rental cars, or limousines, arranging for tickets to special events, and coordinating porter service.

While their main role is to enhance the guests' stay and make it as pleasant as possible, some concierges may also help with business-related needs, such as finding a meeting space, organizing conferences, or bundling packages.

Here is an important note: to become a concierge, strong communication and customer service skills are essential as you're interacting with guests frequently. Some people can get into the profession right out of high school, especially in entry-level positions. However, achieving a higher education, like an associate's or bachelor's degree in hospitality or a related field, might make you more competitive during the job application process and increase your prospects for advancement in the field.
