Where to Study Political Science in the U.S.?

I'm trying to decide where to apply for a political science major and am curious about the best colleges across the United States. Any insights on schools with strong faculty and opportunities for internships?

Political science is a popular field of study and there are a plethora of universities in the U.S. known for their strong programs. A few that stand out include:

1. Harvard University: Harvard's Department of Government has a longstanding reputation of excellence. The faculty includes renowned professors and leading scholars in the field. Moreover, its location in Cambridge, MA, offers various internship opportunities at NGOs, think tanks, legislative offices, and more in Boston, one of the nation's most politically active cities.

2. Stanford University: Known for tackling multidisciplinary issues, Stanford's Political Science Department features a rigorous academic program. The proximity to Silicon Valley also opens doors for internships related to political technology and data analysis.

3. University of Michigan–Ann Arbor: Their political science department boasts a broad range of specializations. As a large public research university, UMich presents ample internship and research opportunities.

4. Swarthmore College: If you're considering a liberal arts college, Swarthmore's Political Science Department offers close-knit, seminar-style classes that allow for deep discussions and personalized attention from professors.

5. American University: Situated in Washington D.C., the center of American politics, AU's School of Public Affairs provides unmatched access to internships in government agencies, NGOs, think tanks, and policy institutes.

When choosing a political science program, consider factors like the expertise of faculty, internship availability, class size, course availability, opportunities for research, and the university's location. Regardless of rankings or prestige, the best program for you will ultimately depend on your individual needs, career goals, and preferences.

Be sure to visit department websites to explore their offerings, and if possible, talk with current students or alumni about their experiences to get a feel for each program. And don't forget to factor in the school's broader campus culture as well! Ultimately, you want to choose an institution where you'll thrive personally and socially, as well as academically.
