Top Midwest Colleges for Environmental Science?

I'm really into environmental science and curious about the Midwest's best colleges for this major. Does anyone have recommendations or personal experiences with schools with a strong environmental program?

When discussing the top colleges for Environmental Science in the Midwest, several universities stand out for their strong programs.

University of Michigan (UMich) has a notable Environmental Science program, located in their Program in the Environment (PitE) within the College of Literature, Science, and the Arts. It covers a breadth of topics from ecosystem processes and climate change to sustainable farming and environmental justice. Students get to partake in hands-on research projects and fieldwork, adding a tangible component to the theoretical side of the curriculum.

At the University of Wisconsin, Madison (UW Madison), they offer an Environmental Sciences major that's quite comprehensive. It's an interdisciplinary program that synthesizes natural and social sciences, meaning students can not only understand the scientific fundamentals of environmental challenges, but also the societal aspects involving policy, law, and economics.

Over in Minnesota, the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities (UMN Twin Cities) has an excellent program in Environmental Sciences, Policy, and Management. This program boasts exceptional faculty, research opportunities, field experiences, and internships that make it one of the most comprehensive programs in the Midwest.

Purdue University in Indiana also offers a great Environmental and Ecological Engineering (EEE) program that blends the principles of science and engineering to prevent, solve, and remediate environmental problems. Their curriculum focuses on sustainability, restoration, and protection of resources.

All of these programs provide solid theoretical grounding along with practical experiences through internships and fieldwork. Do keep in mind though, that while prestige and program specifics matter, you should also consider other factors such as campus atmosphere, location, financial aid, etc. when making your college decisions.
