Software engineering schools worth checking out in Texas?

As a junior interested in software engineering, I'm looking at Texas for college. What are some of the highly regarded colleges there for software engineering? Any insider tips?

Texas is home to several highly regarded colleges for software engineering. Here are my top recommendations and a brief run-down on each.

1. University of Texas at Austin (UT Austin): The school boasts a Computer Science program that is consistently ranked among the top in the nation. While they don't have a specific software engineering major, their computer science program covers many of the same principles and teaches skills directly applicable to software engineering careers.

2. Texas A&M University: The Department of Computer Science and Engineering offers a Software Engineering track that balances theory and practical application, preparing students well for the industry.

3. Southern Methodist University (SMU): SMU offers a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science with a Software Engineering specialization. This program emphasizes both computer science theory and software engineering principles, providing a well-rounded education in the field.

4. University of Texas at Dallas (UTD): The Erik Jonsson School of Engineering and Computer Science at UTD has a bachelor’s program where students can focus on Software Engineering. They have strong industry connections and many students land internships and jobs at top tech firms.

5. Rice University: While Rice does not have a specific undergraduate software engineering program, its computer science program is known to be rigorous and well-respected. Many graduates find roles as software engineers upon graduation due to their robust foundations in theory and practice.

Remember that the fit of the university's culture, size, location, and resources matters just as much as the academic program itself for you to thrive. As such, try to visit these universities (if possible) or at least do more intensive research into them beyond just their software engineering offerings to find the best fit.
