Which colleges have strong actuarial science programs?

I'm thinking about becoming an actuary and would love to hear about colleges that offer top-tier actuarial science programs. Any recommendations or personal experiences would be super helpful!

Several universities are renowned for their robust actuarial science programs. Remember, a key factor when evaluating them is whether they're Centers of Actuarial Excellence (CAE), which indicates they meet certain standards established by the Society of Actuaries.

The University of Wisconsin–Madison is a top-choice for many aspiring actuaries. Its program is one of the oldest in the country and is a designated CAE.

Next, the Pennsylvania State University also has a robust actuarial science program. Penn State's curriculum reads like a "who's who" of actuarial expertise–from life contingencies to actuarial mathematics and financial economics.

The University of Connecticut is another excellent choice, with a program ranked among the best nationally. They offer comprehensive study in all aspects of actuarial science, preparing students for a successful career in the industry.

Another university to consider is the University of Nebraska–Lincoln, known for its strong support for actuarial students in their exams. The program also provides lots of opportunities for career networking.

Finally, consider The Ohio State University with its strong curriculum, CAE designation, and resource-rich environment.

These institutions are just a starting point. When considering a program, also factor in other elements such as geography, college size, available internships, scholarships, and the overall collegiate experience. Don't forget to take advantage of the opportunities to virtually tour these campuses or speak with current students in these programs if possible.

Remember that to become a fully-qualified actuary, you'll need to pass a series of professional actuarial exams, which can be quite challenging. So, a good program should not only cover the material required for these exams but also offer support for exam preparation.
