Great engineering schools in the Northeast?

I'm planning to major in engineering and am particularly looking at schools in the northeast. Any recommendations for colleges with strong engineering departments in that region?

Absolutely, there are numerous highly-regarded engineering schools in the Northeast.

The first that comes to mind is Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), which is often acclaimed as one of the top engineering colleges globally. They offer a wide range of engineering concentrations, including mechanical, civil, and electrical engineering.

Another notable institution is Harvard University, which has both a School of Engineering and Applied Sciences and a Graduate School of Design for those interested in urban planning, architecture, and design engineering.

You should also consider the engineering programs at both Cornell University and Princeton University. Cornell's College of Engineering is one of the most comprehensive engineering programs globally, while Princeton highlights the strength of its faculty, research opportunities and small class sizes within its School of Engineering and Applied Science.

Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania is highly respected, particularly in the field of computer engineering, while Johns Hopkins University, based in Baltimore, Maryland, hosts renowned biomedical engineering and mechanical engineering programs. Do note, however, that these two are not technically in the Northeast, but are in the Mid-Atlantic region—still a manageable distance if your focus is towards the Northeast.

In New York City, Columbia University's Fu Foundation School of Engineering and Applied Science is worth considering, with its strong ties to the industry in the city.

For more tech-focused colleges, you might look into Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) in Troy, New York, or Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI) in Worcester, Massachusetts. These schools offer a variety of engineering disciplines and are well-regarded for their hands-on, project-focused curriculum.

Before making a decision, be sure to consider things like campus environment, student life, financial aid offerings and other factors outside of academics to ensure you pick a school that's a fit for you overall. It might also be helpful to review each school's course catalog to see how their engineering curriculum is structured and what courses appeal to you.
