How Do I Apply for Vocational Rehabilitation in Idaho as a Teen?

I'm in high school in Idaho and thinking about applying for vocational rehabilitation. If anyone has experience or knows the application process for teenagers, could you share some insights?

The application process for Vocational Rehabilitation (VR) in Idaho is fairly straightforward, and there's no age requirement meaning as a high school student, you can definitely apply.

1. Contact Your Local VR Office: The first step in your application process is to reach out to your local VR office. There are VR offices in multiple locations across Idaho, so try and find the one nearest to you.

2. Intake Meeting: Once you've contacted your local office, a Vocational Rehabilitation Counselor will set up an intake meeting with you. They will explain the rehabilitation program, learn more about your disability and your employment goals, and answer any questions you may have.

3. Application Submission: Based on your discussions in the intake meeting, you and the counselor will fill out an application. This application will ask for information about your disability, your employment history (if applicable), your education, and so on.

4. Eligibility Determination: After submitting your application, there will be an eligibility determination process. This typically takes around 60 days. During this time, the VR counselor may require you to take more tests or assessments to verify your disability and determine the services that you will need.

5. Individualized Plan for Employment (IPE): If you're deemed eligible, you and your VR counselor will work together to draft an Individualized Plan for Employment (IPE). This document outlines your employment goals, the steps you need to take to achieve them, and the services that VR will provide to assist you.

Remember that it is critical that you keep in constant contact with your VR counselor throughout this process so that you are always informed and your application is processed smoothly. It's also important to note that while VR provides a valuable service, it's not a guarantee of employment. You should be prepared to work hard and demonstrate your commitment and motivation throughout your rehabilitation program. Best of luck!
