Primarily, you would be responsible for answering emergency and non-emergency calls. You'll have to calmly and accurately obtain critical information about the nature of the situation, location, and involved parties, to gauge the type of assistance needed.

One of the essential parts of your role would involve sending the appropriate response team to where it's required. That might be police, fire, medical services, or a combination of these depending on nature of the call. You also must provide pre-arrival instructions to the caller whenever necessary. These might include medical instructions before an ambulance arrives or safety advice in case of a fire.

Additionally, dispatchers are responsible for coordinating communications between various emergency service teams on the scene. This can include law enforcement officers, medical personnel, fire departments, or occasionally, utility companies.

You would also have to continuously update and utilize information from various databases. This might involve accessing data about callers, locating caller addresses or criminal/medical histories, tracking the movements of emergency personnel, and logging call information accurately.
