I'm investigating different careers and came across the job title media specialist. I'd like to know more about what media specialists do and what industries they typically work in.

A media specialist, otherwise known as a library media specialist or educational media specialist, primarily operates in educational settings such as schools and universities. They are responsible for managing the plethora of resources available in a library in an organized manner.

They take on a multitude of roles. They teach digital literacy to students, instructing them on how to use different forms of technology and software to enhance their learning process. This could include teaching courses on how to use particular software programs or educating pupils on internet safety.

Additionally, they curate a wide array of materials for the library or resource center, which can include books, digital resources, and multimedia content. This responsibility often necessitates staying updated on trends in education and recommending additions or edits to the current collection.

They also aim to foster a library environment conducive to both independent and collaborative learning. As such, they often work closely with teachers to integrate resources into the classroom and guide curriculum development.
