What does a digital marketer do?

Marketing seems really interesting to me, especially with everything going digital. What does a digital marketer's job involve? Are there specific courses or skills that would be helpful to study in high school?

A digital marketer strategizes, develops, and manages marketing campaigns that promote a company's products or services. They play a key role in enhancing brand awareness within the digital space, aiming to drive website traffic, engage with the target audience, generate leads, and convert these leads into customers.

A day in the life of a digital marketer can involve tasks such as SEO (search engine optimization), content creation for blogs or social media platforms, designing and launching email marketing campaigns, optimizing the user experience on the website, and analyzing data to gauge the success of these digital efforts.

As for preparing in high school, there isn’t a standard course of study for digital marketing, but there are several skills and areas of knowledge you could focus on.

1. Tech-savviness: Having a general knowledge of technology, such as knowing basic HTML and being familiar with various social media platforms, is beneficial.

2. Math and Statistics: Digital marketing decisions are often based on data analysis and metrics, so classes in maths and statistics can be helpful.

3. Business and Marketing Classes: These lay the foundation for understanding market trends and business strategies.

4. Writing and Communication skills: A lot of digital marketing involves constructing convincing or engaging copies, so honing writing skills while in high school can be very advantageous.

5. Graphic Design or Computer Graphics: Familiarity with graphic design software can be beneficial for creating visuals for social media or a website.

It's also useful to keep up with the latest trends in digital marketing and technology. There are plenty of online resources, blogs, and tutorials to learn from. In addition to regular coursework, don't forget to gain practical experience – you could create and run a blog, manage a club's social media, or even do some freelance work online to practice your skills.
