Is UCSD great for computer science majors?

I'm checking out schools in California, and UCSD is on my list. How does it rank for computer science majors? Any feedback on their CS program would be awesome, especially if you've attended or know someone who has!

UC San Diego is indeed a great choice for computer science majors. Its Computer Science program is consistently ranked among the top in the nation and worldwide. UCSD's Jacobs School of Engineering, which houses the Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) Department, is known for its strong emphasis on both theoretical and practical aspects of computer science.

As a student pursuing Computer Science at UCSD, you'll have access to a comprehensive curriculum that includes everything from systems and networking to artificial intelligence and bioinformatics. UCSD also recognizes the importance of research, providing students with the opportunity to engage in cutting-edge research projects with faculty, and even publish papers.

The program also provides students with a ton of resources. The CSE department has numerous advising staff and faculty mentors who can provide both academic and career guidance. In addition, UCSD has strong industry connections, especially because it is located in the heart of one of the country's most active tech hubs.

There is also a substantial amount of collaboration within the CS community at UCSD. Students often work together on programming assignments and projects, which enhances their learning experience. They also have access to organizations such as the Computer Science and Engineering Society (CSES) and Women in Computing (WIC), which hosts networking events, technical workshops, and speaker series.

However, keep in mind that this excellence also translates into high competition for admission into the program. It's crucial to have a strong academic record, particularly in STEM subjects, to increase your chances of acceptance. If UCSD is a top pick for you, make sure you communicate your passion for computer science in your application, focusing on any related experiences, projects, or interests that could strengthen your candidacy.
