Which colleges in NYC have strong computer science programs?

I'm considering staying in NYC for college and want to major in computer science. Which schools in the city are known for having really good CS programs? Any info on the campus culture would also be great!

In New York City, there are several reputable universities with strong computer science programs, each with a unique campus culture.

New York University (NYU) offers a highly-ranked computer science program through its Courant Institute of Mathematical Sciences. In addition to core computer science concepts, the program at NYU emphasizes a well-rounded liberal arts education, contributing to diverse perspectives and innovative ideas within the major. The campus is urban and integrated into the city, leading to a vibrant, busy student life that reflects the fast pace of NYC itself.

Columbia University has a well-respected computer science program as well. Columbia's program is research-focused with faculty involved in several areas like theoretical computer science, systems, and AI. Columbia promotes a balanced approach between course work and research. Columbia's campus offers a traditional college feel with its distinguished architecture and quad, a small oasis in the middle of bustling Manhattan.

The City University of New York (CUNY) system also has solid CS programs at its various campuses, such as the City College of New York (CCNY) and Hunter College. These schools offer a practical and cost-effective education and valuable industry connections. As compared to NYU and Columbia, CUNY schools can offer a more commuter-based experience, although many students are still very involved on campus.

Remember, when choosing a college, you should consider factors beyond the academic strength of the computer science program. Look into details of the curriculum, faculty, research opportunities, as well as the overall campus environment to find a school that will be a good fit for you.
