Which UCSD college is best for sciences?

I'm considering UCSD for its science programs, but I'm unsure which of the colleges there has the best reputation for sciences. Can anyone give insights on which ones stand out, especially for majors like bio or physics?

UC San Diego, as a whole, is well respected for its science programs, but the individual colleges within the system don't specialize in specific academic fields. UCSD's college system focuses on general education requirements and the living-learning environment, like where your dorm might be and what the thematic focus or perspective of your general education courses would be.

When you choose a college at UC San Diego, it won't impact your major. Regardless of your college, you can choose any major across UCSD, including sciences like biology or physics.

So, in terms of academic reputation for sciences, this is based on the university as a whole, not your individual college. UCSD's Division of Biological Sciences and the Department of Physics are both well-renowned, regardless of which college you're in.

However, it would be helpful to look at each college's general education requirements to see which one aligns best with your academic interests. For instance, Muir's general education requirements are considered the most flexible and could allow for more space to take more science electives or participate in research. On the other hand, Revelle has a rigorous general education requirement with an emphasis on the natural sciences and humanities.

Ultimately, pick the college whose philosophy and general education requirements align with your goals, interests, and how you want to shape your university experience outside of your major.
