Best college for library science?

I'm thinking about library science as a potential major and would love some input on which colleges offer the best programs. Are there schools renowned for their library science courses or unique internship opportunities in this area?

When it comes to studying Library Science, there are several universities known for their strong programs. Here, I will focus on undergraduate programs as it appears that's your current stage.

The University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign is well-regarded in this field and offers a Bachelor of Science in Information Sciences. This program provides students with a solid foundation in information organization, information technology, and information management.

The University of Maryland, College Park also has an exceptional program. It offers a unique Bachelor's in Information Science degree which prepares students for a career in the information profession and can serve as a foundation for library science.

Another option would be Simmons University in Boston, which has an undergraduate program in Information Technology, where you can focus on Library and Information Science and then transition into their well-regarded Master’s in Library and Information Science program.

For unique hands-on experiences, these schools often create opportunities with local libraries, companies, and organization for internships allowing you to gain practical skills in library and information science.

If you're considering graduate studies later on, there are even more options. Some of the top schools for a master's in Library Science include University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, University of Washington, and University of Texas at Austin.

As always, be sure to look beyond rankings and consider factors like faculty, coursework, location, and post-grad opportunities.

Remember, a strong undergraduate program won't necessarily translate into a strong graduate program and vice versa. It's crucial to research each program individually and reach out to schools that interest you for additional insight. Good luck in your search!
