Which Michigan college is best for a computer science degree?

Hi! I'm considering studying computer science in Michigan. Can anyone suggest which university or college offers the best computer science degree? I'm interested in both the academic and campus experience aspects.

When it comes to studying Computer Science in Michigan, two highly-regarded institutions come to mind: the University of Michigan-Ann Arbor (UMich) and Michigan Technological University.

UMich in Ann Arbor has one of the top-ranked computer science programs in the U.S. It's renowned not only for the technical skills students gain, but also the hands-on experiences available such as internships, research opportunities, and coding competitions. Furthermore, the college promotes interdisciplinary studies, encouraging students to explore areas such as business or health where computer science can be applied. In terms of campus life, UMich boasts a vibrant student culture with its lively arts scene, active Greek life, and notable sports teams.

On the other hand, Michigan Technological University (MTU) in Houghton has a strong focus on research and creating practical solutions through technology. They offer specialized courses in areas like AI, Cybersecurity, and Software Engineering. MTU also encourages students to take part in research projects and presents a unique Enterprise Program where students work on real projects with real clients. Michigan Tech's rural campus provides a number of outdoor activities, and they have an active Greek life on campus.

Deciding which school is the "best" largely depends on what you're looking for - whether it's the urban, culturally-rich life of Ann Arbor or the close-knit, outdoors-focused community in Houghton. I recommend reaching out to both schools and seeing if you can talk with some current students or professors to get a better feel for what each program is like.
