Study Animation in the USA?

I'm passionate about animation and considering studying it in the USA. Does anyone have recommendations on top animation programs or schools in the US? What should I know about applying to these programs?

The U.S. has numerous excellent schools for studying animation. Most prominent among these would be:

1. California Institute of the Arts (CalArts) - This school, founded by Walt Disney, is very well-regarded and has dedicated programs in character animation and experimental animation.

2. University of Southern California (USC) - USC's School of Cinematic Arts has a top-notch program in animation & digital arts.

3. Ringling College of Art and Design - Renowned for its computer animation program.

These schools generally have strong connections to the industry, meaning there will likely be opportunities for internships and networking.

Applying to these programs is quite similar to applying to a standard undergraduate program. You'll need to submit your academic records (like high school transcripts and standardized test scores, though some schools may be test-optional), letters of recommendation, and a personal statement.

The key difference for animation programs is the portfolio requirement. Schools will want to see samples of your artistic abilities, and this is often the most critical part of your application.
