What does a tutor do?

I've been thinking about becoming a tutor for younger students, possibly math or science. Can someone explain what a tutor's role is and what qualities make a good tutor?

A tutor is essentially an educational mentor and guide who provides personalized instruction to students outside of the traditional classroom setting. This role commonly involves clarifying and explaining academic material, assisting with homework, and preparing students for tests or examinations.

One critical aspect of the tutor's role is identifying the areas where a student may need additional support or enrichment, and then customizing lessons to target those particular needs. For example, as a math or science tutor, you would need to adapt your methods and content depending on whether a student is struggling with basic concepts, needs help with applying those concepts, or needs challenging problems to stimulate further growth.

Good tutors are characterized by some key qualities:
