Top colleges for veterinary science?

I've always wanted to work with animals, so I'm set on studying veterinary science. Which colleges offer the best programs in this field? Any specific experiences or things I should look for during college visits?

There are quite a few excellent universities for studying Veterinary Science in the U.S., however you should be aware they are almost only at the graduate level. Cornell University's College of Veterinary Medicine is highly respected and offers a rigorous curriculum. University of California, Davis also has an excellent program. University of Pennsylvania's School of Veterinary Medicine is another prestigious institution known for its research and clinical services. Colorado State University’s College of Veterinary Medicine and Biomedical Sciences is recognized for its innovative programs.

As you visit these colleges, try to meet the faculty and students if possible, to understand their experiences and insights about the program. Attend any open days or information sessions available to prospective students, and ask about the hands-on experience you'd gain, like the opportunity for clinical practice or research projects.

It's also worth noting any specializations that might interest you. Some programs might have a particular strength in small animal care, while others might focus on farm animals. Facilities are also essential; look for state-of-the-art labs, teaching hospitals, and research centers.

Finally, consider the locale and if you want to work with certain animal populations. For example, natural wildlife exposure might be greater in a rural setting. Remember, the best program for you is not only about academic excellence but also about fitting your personal interests and career goals.
