What can I study in the USA as an international student?

I'm considering studying in the USA after high school and wondering about the different fields and subjects available. Are there specific areas where the US excels, or can I pretty much study anything?

The U.S is home to a diverse range of academic institutions that offer a plethora of programs, giving you many opportunities to explore different fields and subjects. In terms of areas where U.S. universities traditionally excel, they are renowned for their strong programs in a range of STEM fields, such as Computer Science, Engineering, and Bio-medical Sciences. In fact, many top U.S. schools are leading research centers where invention and innovation abound.

However, the U.S. isn't just about STEM. American universities are also known for their robust programs in the Social Sciences and Humanities. You'll find strong programs in Psychology, Economics, Political Science, and more at a diverse range of institutions. Many of these schools also offer unique interdisciplinary programs that allow you to tailor your courses to your interests.

Additionally, they have substantial resources for the fine and performing arts, and areas like Business and Marketing are also a popular focus at many schools, with institutions like the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania and the Sloan School at MIT leading the way.

Ultimately, the flexibility of the American education system means that you can often study a rather broad range of subjects before declaring your major, or even double major in two distinct areas. Choosing a suitable program based on your intended field of study, your career aspirations, and your personal interests would make your international study experience more fulfilling and worthwhile. Good luck with your college search!
