Competing engineering clubs in college?

I'm a high school junior interested in joining engineering clubs in college. Are there specific colleges that have engineering clubs known for competing and excelling in research challenges? I'd love to get involved in that kind of environment.

Many colleges have highly active and competitive engineering clubs. Here are some examples:

MIT hosts a number of engineering clubs that cater to different specializations. For example, there's the MIT Solar Electric Vehicle Team, which designs, builds, and races solar-powered cars and regularly competes in international competitions.

At the University of Michigan, you have organizations such as the Michigan Mars Rover Team, dedicated to designing and building a model Mars Rover for the University Rover Challenge, and the Michigan Baja Racing team which designs, builds, and races an off-road vehicle across the country.

Stanford University also hosts competitive engineering clubs, like the Stanford Solar Car Project, a student-run club where participants build and race solar cars across continents at the World Solar Challenge.

Carnegie Mellon University features the Carnegie Mellon Racing team, which annually designs, builds, and races an electric vehicle in the Formula SAE Electric competition.

On the East Coast, Georgia Tech's Wreck Racing challenges its members to build a competitive race car from a junkyard vehicle for the annual Grassroots Motorsports Challenge.

Remember, many schools host an annual Club Fair at the beginning of the academic year. This is a perfect opportunity to see what each school offers and get a feel for the club's culture. And if you don't find the club you're looking for, most colleges have resources to help you start your own!
