How to pick a good college major if you're unsure?

I'm a high school junior and I have no clue what I want to major in. What are some good college majors that are broad enough to keep my options open? Any advice would be helpful!

I totally understand your apprehension in selecting a college major when you're not sure of your interests or career trajectory yet. It's a big decision, and it's important to remember that your choice of major does not have to determine your entire future.

To start, consider general studies or liberal arts programs. These majors expose students to a variety of disciplines and would be a good fit if you want a broad-based education. You'll have the freedom to explore different academic fields if you’re not yet sure where your primary interests lie. Majors like English, History, and Philosophy also offer a lot of transferable skills like critical thinking and writing that can be invaluable in many careers.

Business is another versatile major that allows for career flexibility. It can also be paired effectively with another major or minor such as a foreign language or cultural studies.

That said, it's crucial to identify your strengths, interests, and passions. Spend some time conducting self-assessments to better understand your abilities and preferences. Identifying a subject that you enjoy and are good at can lead you towards selecting a relevant major.

Also, consider potential career paths. Investigating the job market and future prospects for different majors can provide you a more pragmatic perspective. For example, majors in the STEM field often lead to well-paid jobs and offer promising employment growth.

Remember, many students decide to change their major during college, and some career fields value skills and experiences more than specific academic qualifications. It's all part of the learning curve, and it's okay to still be figuring things out. After all, college is also about self-discovery.
